Shopify Flow Adds New Actions to Retrieve Gift Card, Location, and Cash Tracking Session Data
March 31, 2025

Shopify has expanded Flow’s capabilities with new actions that allow merchants to fetch data from their Shopify store and use it in automated workflows. These “Get data” actions run queries based on a set of filters, such as retrieving resources updated in the last 24 hours, and return a list of up to 100 matching entries.

New “Get Data” Actions in Shopify Flow

These new actions make it easier for merchants to access and leverage key store information:

Get Gift Card Data

This action retrieves data about gift cards in your Shopify store. It is important to note that there are two types of gift card-related data:

  • Gift card products – These are the products that generate gift cards.
  • Gift cards – These are the actual cards that customers use for purchases.

To retrieve data about gift card products, use the Get product data or Get product variant data actions instead.

Get Location Data

This action fetches location information from your Shopify store. Locations refer to any place where you store inventory, sell products, or fulfill orders. By using this action, merchants can automate location-based workflows, such as inventory management or order routing.

Get Cash Tracking Session Data

Designed for POS Pro users, this action retrieves information about cash tracking sessions. Cash tracking sessions help merchants monitor and manage cash flow in their store’s registers, ensuring better control over in-store transactions.

Why These Updates Matter

By adding these new “Get data” actions, Shopify Flow is becoming even more powerful for merchants who rely on automation. These features offer several advantages:

  • More Data Access – Retrieve and use key store information within your workflows.
  • Improved Automation – Automate processes related to gift cards, locations, and cash tracking.
  • Incrreased Efficiency – Reduce manual tasks and improve store operations with real-time data retrieval.

How to Use These Actions

  1. Go to Shopify Flow – Open the Flow app within your Shopify admin.
  2. Create a Workflow – Set up a new automation or edit an existing one.
  3. Select a “Get Data” Action – Choose from “Get gift card data,” “Get location data,” or “Get cash tracking session data.”
  4. Apply Filters – Define filters to retrieve the most relevant data.
  5. Use the Data in Your Workflow – Integrate the retrieved information into actions that automate store processes.

Final Thoughts

With these updates, Shopify Flow continues to evolve as a powerful automation tool, allowing merchants to streamline their operations with greater efficiency. Whether tracking gift cards, managing store locations, or monitoring cash flow, these new “Get data” actions provide valuable insights to help businesses run more smoothly.
