Feature
Headless Storefronts Now Support Unique Publishing and Order Attribution
February 11, 2025

Shopify is introducing a new feature that allows merchants to publish different products and collections to each of their Headless storefronts. If you operate multiple Headless storefronts, you can now customise the product offerings for each one, ensuring tailored experiences for different audiences or regions.

What’s Changing?

Previously, all Headless storefronts were grouped under a single "Headless" channel in the Shopify admin. Now, each storefront is treated as a distinct channel, meaning:

  • You can publish different products and collections to each storefront.
  • The Shopify admin will display each storefront’s specific name instead of a generic "Headless" label.
  • This change applies across the admin, including the Orders page, making it easier to attribute orders to the correct storefront.

What This Means for API Calls

If you use API calls to manage publishing, you’ll need to update how you reference your Headless storefronts:

  • Previously, API calls used the publicationId for the overall Headless sales channel.
  • Now, each Headless storefront has its own publicationId, which must be used when calling mutations like publishablePublish.

This update gives merchants more granular control over their storefronts, ensuring that each one can operate independently with its own unique product catalogue and order tracking.
